Bursaries for Conference Attendees
We wanted to ensure wide participation at Adaptation Canada 2020 – and bursaries were part of the approach.

Bursaries for Indigenous Attendees
Two bursary programs are available to help support Indigenous people who wish to attend Adaptation Canada 2020:
- Registration and Travel Bursaries for Indigenous Attendees (General)
- Registration and Travel Bursaries for Indigenous Attendees (Health Sector Only)

Registration and Travel Bursaries for Indigenous Attendees (General)
Administered by Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council (NmTC)
Limited funding is available for bursaries to help fund registration and travel costs for Indigenous delegates who wish to attend Adaptation Canada 2020.
The bursaries are funded by Indigenous Services Canada’s Climate Change and Health Adaptation program and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada and they are administered through Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council (NmTC).
Registration and Travel Bursaries for Indigenous Attendees (Health Sector Only)
Funded and administered by the First Nations Health Authority
First Nations Health Authority offers travel bursaries to BC First Nations health staff, health managers or council members with the health portfolio who want to participate in the Adaptation Canada 2020 conference.
The FNHA bursary will cover registration and travel for the first 20 people who register and apply for funding before December 2, 2019, during the Early Bird registration. The offer is limited to one person/community.
Youth Bursaries and General Bursaries
Administered by the Fraser Basin Council
FBC is offering a limited number of youth bursaries and general bursaries (for low-income individuals or representatives of non-profit organizations who are active in climate change adaptation, but unable to pay the full cost of attendance).

Youth Bursaries — Details, Eligibility and Selection Criteria
If you are a youth age 30 or under at the time of the conference (February 19-21, 2020), you may be eligible for a youth bursary.
What’s Included
- Free registration to the Adaptation Canada 2020 conference
- A limited funding contribution for travel costs.
Note: Youth bursary winners will be required to cover any additional fees or other expenses associated with attending the conference.
Eligibility
Before you apply for a youth bursary, please ensure that you fit the following eligibility criteria:
- Age: 30 years of age or younger at the time of the conference (Feb 19-21, 2020)
- Financial need: Without a bursary, you would not be able to attend the conference
- Location: Currently living in Canada. Canadian citizenship/permanent residency is not necessary to obtain a bursary.
- Relevance: You have a great interest in climate change adaptation and in applying it in your own work, life and community.
Selection Criteria
Recipients will be selected on the basis of need, eligibility and likelihood that they will apply the knowledge they gain at the conference in their day-to-day life, their jobs and their communities.
Please note: An applicant who is granted a bursary under a different program will generally not be eligible for a bursary under this program. In submitting an application form, the applicant agrees that the administrator of this bursary program may communicate with the administrator(s) of any other bursary program to which the applicant applies to ensure compliance with this provision.
General Bursaries — Details, Eligibility and Selection Criteria
If you are over 30 years old, engage in climate change adaptation and would like to attend the Adaptation Canada 2020 conference, but you (or the non-profit organization for which you work, if applicable) does not have sufficient funds, you may be eligible for a general bursary.

Before you apply for a general bursary, please ensure that you fit the following eligibility criteria:
- Financial need: Priority will be given to applicants in rural communities, who work in a low-wage industry (or for a non-profit organization), who are unemployed or who are full-time students over 30 years of age. Applicants who have full financial support from their workplace to attend the conference are not eligible for a bursary.
- Location: Currently living in Canada. Canadian citizenship/permanent residency is not necessary to obtain a bursary.
- Relevance: You are engaging in climate change adaptation and are (or expect to be) applying it in your own work, life and community.
